Abel Wilson Walekhwa is a PhD Candidate at the University of Cambridge, UK. He is working on Mathematical modeling for Rift Valley fever (RVF) disease transmission in Uganda with Dr. Andrew Conlan. He is passionate about modeling capacity development on the African Continent. He has set up an Infectious diseases Epidemiology and modeling Unit (IDEMU) at Makerere University School of Public Health. Recently he was awarded $3,000 by the Applied Malaria Modeling Network (AMMnet) under the regional events arrangement for capacity building of the fellows at Makerere University. He is currently a Co-Investigator on the African Modeling and Analytics Academy for Women (AMAX) project, USD 500,000 (2023-2026), and a facilitator on strengthening modeling and data analytics in Uganda project, USD 499.872.6 (2023-2026). He inspired the formation and functionalization of the Malawi Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (MACEMA).

Ensheng Dong is a PhD candidate and Louis M. Brown Engineering Fellow at the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering and the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. He is also a member of the Infectious Disease Dynamics group at the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health.
He is interested in interdisciplinary research on network science, mobility modeling, spatial analysis, data visualization, and infectious diseases modeling. His recent work includes forecasting the measles risk in the US, predicting dengue outbreaks in Sri Lanka, building and maintaining the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard, modeling the COVID-19 pandemic, and analyzing the vaccine hesitancy in the US.
Ensheng has been featured by Wall Street Journal, NPR, CNN, TIME, Nature Index, Le Monde and other media. With 260 billion requests, the JHU COVID-19 Dashboard is recognized as one of TIME’s best inventions in 2020.

Robert is a Kenyan registered veterinarian and MSc. Medical Statistics holder passionate about modeling NTDs and zoonotic diseases as well as evaluating the impact health interventions to advance the understanding of both disease and MoH program factors.

Robert has been key on strengthening the national snakebite program at the MoH and is currently involved in the development of the Kenya Livestock Masterplan as a data analyst.

He is a beneficiary of the SACEMA clinic on meaningful modeling of epidemiological data – an experience that strengthened his passion for dynamic modeling of diseases.

Robert developed a deterministic SIR model simulating dynamics of snakebite in an endemic region of Kenya. He further applied the model to assess the impact of hospital seeking behavior in averting snakebite induced deaths

Mark Asare Owusu is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Caroline Trotter at the University of Cambridge, UK. His work focuses on applying mathematical models to understand the epidemiology of meningitis to inform policy decisions on its control in Ghana. This research is in line with the WHO’s objective to defeat meningitis by 2030. Prior to Mark’s current study in Cambridge, he obtained both an MSc. and a BSc in Mathematics from AIMS-Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana respectively. Aside from his academic activities, Mark is passionate about peer mentorship and youth-empowering activities.
